PROGRAM SCHEDULE:
PLAN YOUR CHILD'S SUMMER PROGRAM!
Reading/Language Arts (Daily from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.)
Students at all age levels learn to strengthen reading and writing skills. Pre-readers will develop reading readiness skills using a variety of multisensory learning experiences. Writing in shaving cream or sand trays is just one way teachers make new concepts like letter and number identification easier to process and remember.
Young readers will build word decoding and vocabulary skills and use literature to strengthen reading fluency and comprehension.
Older students will enjoy reading from award-winning literature to strengthen inferencing, prediction, and comprehension skills.
All students will review the writing process from pre-writing through publication. Younger writers will explore descriptive writing through poetry, stories, and narratives. More experienced writers will be encouraged to develop their critical thinking skills to construct interesting, well-structured stories.
Mathematics (Daily from 10:15 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.)
Manipulatives and real-life situations are used at all ages to help students develop a through understanding of the process and concepts of mathematics.
Skill areas include problem solving, reasoning, number sense and numeration, estimation, math facts, computation, geometry, fractions, measurement, patterns, time and money.
Students learn a variety of problem solving strategies to help them become flexible thinkers.
Speech-Language Instruction (30 minute sessions from 3 to 5 times per week)
Crossroads offers one-on-one speech-language instruction with a speech-language therapist. Enrollment is limited.
Build Kindergarten Readiness Skills
You can help your child prepare for the new challenges of Kindergarten. The day is filled with "hands on" learning activities to make learning fun. Students will strengthen pre-reading skills, word retrieval strategies and listening comprehension.
Recreation Program (Daily from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.)
You have the option of adding a 4-hour daily recreational program to your child's schedule. Campers who stay for the afternoon recreation program can look forward to participating in many new activities to keep summer vacation fun:
