The ESY Program at The Vanguard School (Ages 6-17)

Program Dates: June 25–August 3, 2012 (No program on July 4)
Program Times: 9:00am-2:00pm, Monday-Friday

The ESY Program at The Vanguard School is offered to current students and students in neighboring school districts, ages 6 to 17, who are eligible for ESY services. The program is designed to maintain skills and to reduce regression during the summer months by incorporating academic, social, behavioral, and vocational IEP goals.  Each summer, a program theme such as “Back to Nature” and “Summer Sleuths” provides an engaging foundation for summer learning and fun!

Sample Daily Schedule

9:00am-9:30am            Homeroom and Social Skills Groups

9:30am-10:15am          Reading

10:15am-10:30am        Snack/Break

10:30am-11:00am        Math

11:00am-11:30am        Language Arts

11:30am-12:30pm        Lunch and Recess

12:30pm-1:45pm          Social and Leisure Skills Programs

1:45pm-2:00pm            Homeroom

Afternoons are spent participating in structured social and leisure activities, allowing students to reinforce and maintain social and behavioral skills within the context of engaging activities.

Weekly activities include:

  • “Summer Clubs” (Cooking, Crafts, Nature, Technology, Cartooning, Creative Arts, etc)
  • Swimming/Water Play
  • Theme-Based Projects
  • “The Buddy Program”
  • Community Service Projects
  • Vocational Experiences

Additionally, students receive speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and counseling as specified in their Extended School Year IEPs.
